Performance Structure

Location & Arrival

Performances will be held at local schools, churches, colleges, or other suitable venues near the theme parks.  ​

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the Site Director and/or staff to assist your group.

​

Timeline

  • Allotted Time:

    • Instrumental Ensembles: 30 minutes total (including setup, optional warm-up, performance, and exit).

    • Choral Ensembles: 20 minutes total (including setup, optional warm-up, performance, and exit).

  • Performance:

    • Each ensemble should perform two to three selections of the director’s choice within the allotted time.

    • Performances are adjudicated and scored by one adjudicator specializing in band, orchestra, or choir.​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Setup Crew: Each school must supply a crew to handle the rearrangement of risers, music stands, or chairs before their group’s performance.

  • Warm-Up: An optional warm-up not to exceed 3 minutes is allowed.

  • Performance: Each ensemble should perform two to three selections of the director’s choice within the allotted time.​

  • Allotted Time:

    • 45 minutes total per ensemble (including entering, performance, and clinician feedback).

  • Performance:

    • Ensembles may perform one to three selections. Time can be used flexibly for performance and clinician feedback.

    • These sessions are not adjudicated, and no awards are given.

  • Warm-Up:
    For both event types, an optional warm-up of up to 3 minutes is allowed.

  • Setup Crew:
    Each school must provide a crew to handle the rearrangement of risers, music stands, or chairs before their group’s performance.

​Time Management: The total stage time begins when the first member of the group enters the stage. It is crucial to manage setup, performance, and exit efficiently to stay within the time limit and ensure a pleasant experience for all participants.

After Your Performance

Adjudicated Events:

  • Return to the Registration Area to pick up your Conductor’s Scores, Score Sheets, Adjudicator Comments, and Awards.

Clinic-Only Events:

  • Groups will receive immediate verbal and/or written feedback from the clinician during their session.

Repertoire & Adjudication

Music Selection

Director's Discretion: There are no specific music selection requirements. Directors are encouraged to choose pieces that best showcase their ensemble's talents and development level.

Quality Over Difficulty: Adjudicators (for adjudicated events) will evaluate the quality of the performance in relation to the difficulty of the selected pieces.

Original Scores:

 

  • For Adjudicated Events:  One to two original numbered conductor's scores for each selection must be provided for the judges.  Copied scores require written permission from the publisher.

  • For Clinic-Only Events:  Providing original scores for the clinician is recommended by not required.

Adjudication

(for Adjudicated Events Only)

Evaluation: One to two Adjudicators will provide written and recorded comments, along with a numerical rating.

Recorded Comments: Adjudicator comments will be provided in a digital format. One to two SD/SDHC cards will be supplied for each performing group.

Adjudication Form:  Each performing group will receive an adjudication form tailored to their ensemble type.  Groups will be critiqued on the following criteria:

  • Tone quality

  • Intonation

  • Rhythm

  • Balance and Blend

  • Technique (facility/accuracy)

  • Interpretation/Musicianship

  • Diction - Vocal

  • Bowing - Strings

  • Articulation - Winds

  • Other Performance Factors

Feedback
(for Clinic-Only Events Only)

  • Ensembles will receive immediate verbal and/or written feedback directly from the clinician during their session.

  • Feedback focuses on ensemble development, musicianship, and performance improvement, rather than a numerical rating or ranking.

Instrumental

  • Chairs

  • Music stands

  • Four (4) timpani

  • Bass drum

  • Orchestra bells

  • One (1) solo microphone

  • Piano (provided for jazz ensemble and orchestra)

Ensembles are responsible for providing their own mallets and other necessary percussion equipment.
